Shadow - GSD Cross Collie Homed!

This is Shadow. He is a 10 year old GSD x Border Collie.


He was found straying (and had been many times before) but every other time his owners have reclaimed him. This time, they decided that they did not want him back.
When he was picked up he was showing huge amounts of fear towards the people handling him due to the stress of the situation and through he terror, he had snarled at someone. Sadly, this does mean an assessment fail at many dog pounds and after the animals 7 day reclaim period they are euthanased.
The owners were told outright that if they did not take their dog back, then he would be killed, but they just told them that they could do what they wanted with him. They had owned him since he was 8 weeks old.



Because he had a note on his kennel saying that he was aggressive, he was due to die, so Furry Friends Animal Rescue agreed to take him in.
Out of the kennel situation he is lovely! Very sweet natured, but it takes a few minutes for him to trust you. He is a cuddly old man and is currently living with a Cavalier and a Westie.
Shadow cannot be homed with cats.
He is underweight and his coat is very harsh suggesting that he has probably be housed outside for a long period of time (possibly always).
Furry Friends Animal Rescue would only be happy homing him to a place with teenage children and over. Ideally an adult household would be perfect.

Shadow has been castrated (not even old boys balls last long here), microchipped and first vaccinated, plus wormed and defleaed. He has also gone off into a foster home.



A homecheck will be carried out and minimum adoption fee applies.

Shadow's story

Shadow is going into foster in the next coule of days, I am meeting his fosterers today and will get them to give us a update (s)

Shadow looks so beautiful what rotten luck in his poor life that he got such lousy owners. How anyone can give a dog up that they have had since a tiny pup is totally beyond me.

Fingers crossed that this lovely boy finds someone worthy of him quickly.

Shadow arrived with me this morning and we all went off to Treetops kennels for the day. Here he is after a walk with Emma a Vigil dog who is also looking for her new home. He was a big hit with the Vigil Volunteers mingling with us all in our office/ kitchen. I cant believe that he is 10 years old, a loving dog that is eager to make friends with us humans.

He has settled in so well here. Although I have to say that he has some unusual habits. He can open doors! But bless his old man brain...gets a bit confused! Most dogs would make the most of this idea, but instead of letting himself out, he lets himself in! Loyal is an understatement and if he was a purebred GSD I am sure he would have been snapped up. Hopefully someone will see past his crossbreed status and see him as he should be seen...a dog who is desperate to find a person who loves him as much as he loves them.
He spends much of his time snuggled up having a cuddle and if someone is looking for a companion dog, then this is the dog for you! Wonderful nature and some cheeky habits...what more could you ask for???

Hi Emma Iv been here now for 5 days, In that time Iv not had a single enquirey to rehome me I think its my age thats putting people off its ncertainly not my behavour as I have been a very good boy since Iv been here, Any way in the meantime as you can see I now have my own chair while Im waiting next to John while hes on the pc thingy,Thanks for taking me in and getting me to the vets and sorting out my tummy problems. I was out in the garden this morning and did a poo John went straight over to investigate and commented that it was one of the best poos he had seen in a long time, (get a life John.)

Gorgeous Shadow and beautiful Amber are still looking for homes as everybody can see...but we have had this rather nice idea that they may actually be able to go to a new home together!
They get on so well and although it is NOT vitally important that they stay together, if anybody were to be looking for a pair of dogs, these maybe the answer!

I have had many dogs come through my care since starting to rescue dogs for some 11years and I have to say that Shadow and Amber are in my top 20 of the easiest and most well behaved house dogs that I have looked after.

Either/both would suit as first time dogs and Shadow's initial suspicion of strangers has now passed and he is very accepting of everyone who comes to visit.

It would be so great to get these dogs into a home for Christmas and it would be Shadow's first proper Christmas too! Judging by his condition when he first arrived he was an outside dog, so for him to be curled up in front of a fire - possibly curled up with Amber - would be amazing!

Please do consider these dogs as both so deserve a good turn of fate.

No-one should be put off by these dogs ages, they have so much left to give to the right owner and I do know what I'm talking about as I adopted my girl at age 10 and she is now almost 13 and still as fit as a fiddle.

If anyone is sitting on the fence regarding these 2 beauties jump off that fence and take a chance you will be glad you did.

That is such a shame people obviously don't realise what they are missing out on here.

Older dogs deserve to have just the same chance as younger dogs and speaking from experience they are so rewarding.
